Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally
binding agreement between you and SpicyDevs
("we", "our", "us")
regarding your use of the Posterium website at
posters.spicydevs.xyz and the API at
api.spicydevs.xyz (collectively, the "Service").
By accessing or using any part of the Service, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age and that you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
The Service
Posterium is a free, open-source image-generation API and visual editor that produces movie and television poster images overlaid with live rating badges from third-party data sources (IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, TMDB, Letterboxd, MyAnimeList, AniList, and others).
The Service is provided as-is and free of charge with no account requirement. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time and without prior notice. We will make reasonable efforts to maintain availability but make no uptime guarantee.
Acceptable Use
The Service has no enforced rate limits. This is intentional — we want the API to be usable in media servers, automation workflows, Discord bots, websites, and other integrations without friction.
In return, you agree to use the Service fairly and in good faith. Acceptable use includes:
- Generating poster images for personal media libraries (Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, Kodi, Stremio)
- Embedding API URLs in personal or commercial websites, applications, and bots
- Building tools, plugins, or integrations on top of the API
- Using the visual editor to design and export poster configurations
- Forking or self-hosting the project under the terms of the MIT Licence
Prohibited Use
You must not:
- Abuse the API at scale. This includes using the API to bulk-generate or pre-render large volumes of images in a way that materially degrades performance for other users, or that could reasonably be characterised as a denial-of-service attack.
- Resell or repackage the API. You may not operate a commercial proxy or reselling service that substantially reproduces the Posterium API's functionality and charges end users for access. (Self-hosting under the MIT Licence is explicitly permitted.)
- Misrepresent the source of rating data. Posterium retrieves rating data from third-party platforms and displays it for informational purposes. Do not present Posterium-generated ratings as official, verified, or certified by those platforms.
- Use the Service for illegal purposes or in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations in your jurisdiction.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, circumvent, or disrupt any security or access controls protecting the Service.
- Scrape rating data for redistribution. The Service generates images intended for display, not a data pipeline for extracting and redistributing structured rating data at scale.
Violation of these restrictions may result in your IP address or API requests being blocked without notice.
API Keys
Posterium uses shared API keys for TMDB and Fanart.tv on your behalf by default. These shared keys have usage quotas. If your use case requires high-volume requests, you are encouraged to supply your own keys via the builder's settings panel.
If you provide your own TMDB or Fanart.tv API keys, you are responsible for complying with those platforms' own terms of service. We accept no liability for suspended or revoked third-party API keys.
You must not intentionally exhaust the shared API key quotas in a way that degrades the Service for other users.
Intellectual Property & Data Rights
Posterium software
The Posterium codebase (frontend editor and API worker) is published under the MIT Licence and is free to use, modify, and redistribute. See Open-Source Licence.
Poster artwork
Poster images are sourced from TMDB, Fanart.tv, IMDb, and Metahub. These images are the property of their respective copyright holders (studios, distributors, or the platforms themselves). Posterium does not claim ownership of any poster artwork and makes no grant of rights to use that artwork beyond personal, non-commercial display.
If you are using Posterium-generated poster images in a commercial context, you are responsible for ensuring you have the appropriate licences to display the underlying artwork.
Rating data
Rating scores are retrieved from third-party platforms and displayed as factual data. Rating data is not copyrightable per se, but the underlying databases may be protected by database rights in some jurisdictions. We do not grant any right to reproduce or redistribute rating data at scale.
Your configurations
Any poster configuration you create using the builder is yours. We do not claim ownership of configurations stored locally in your browser or shared via API URL.
Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. To the fullest extent permitted by law, SpicyDevs disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to:
- Merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
- Accuracy, completeness, or currency of rating data retrieved from third-party sources
- Uninterrupted, error-free, or secure access to the Service
- Continued availability of third-party poster artwork sources
- Compatibility with any specific media server, application, or workflow
Rating scores displayed by the Service are retrieved in real-time from external platforms. We do not verify their accuracy and they may differ from what those platforms currently display due to caching, API delays, or data changes.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SpicyDevs and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or business interruption, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law. Because the Service is provided free of charge, our aggregate liability to you shall not exceed USD $0 (zero dollars).
Third-Party Content & Services
The Service retrieves content from TMDB, Fanart.tv, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, Letterboxd, MyAnimeList, and AniList. These services are independent of SpicyDevs and governed by their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for:
- Changes to data or APIs made by those platforms
- Interruptions caused by those platforms' outages
- The accuracy of ratings, artwork, or metadata sourced from those platforms
- Any terms-of-service violations you commit on those platforms by using Posterium
The Service infrastructure runs on Cloudflare Workers. Use of the Service is also subject to Cloudflare's Terms of Service.
Open-Source Licence
The Posterium source code is distributed under the MIT Licence. A copy of the full licence text is available in the repository:
github.com/xdaayush/freeposterapi/blob/main/LICENSE →
In summary, the MIT Licence permits you to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the software, provided you include the copyright notice and licence text in all copies or substantial portions of the software.
The MIT Licence applies to the software only. It does not grant rights to the poster artwork, rating data, or any third-party content retrieved by the Service. See Intellectual Property & Data Rights above.
Termination
We reserve the right to restrict or block access to the Service, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, if we reasonably believe you are violating these Terms or otherwise causing harm to the Service or its users.
You may stop using the Service at any time. Because no account exists, no deregistration is required. Clearing your browser's local data for this site removes all locally stored preferences.
Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in India.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and noted in the repository commit history. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
